Annual Fire & Fusion competition goes virtual this year
7 pm Wednesday, Sept. 2
The Nashua Senior Activity Center will present its premiere fundraising event, the 8th annual Fire and Fusion – An Executive Chef Competition, as a virtual event. It will be professionally produced and streamed on platforms including Facebook, YouTube, and on multiple Public Access TV stations on Wed. Sept. 2 at 7 pm. You will be able to enjoy all of the action of a live competition from the safety of your own home! And since this event has sold out every year to 350 ticket holders, the senior center is excited to be able to introduce this wonderful event to an extended audience.
The Public Access TV channels are as follows:
  • Nashua: Channel 96
  • Hollis: Channels 12 and 191
  • Manchester: Channel 23
  • Hudson: Channel 20.
Nashua will air the show every day for the following week. Watch as everyone’s favorite host, Mike Morin, chats with the competing chefs as they produce their creations.
Participating chefs include:
  • Chef Joanne Johnston, Nashua Crossings
  • Chef Hilton Dottin, Bedford Nursing and Rehab. Center
  • Chef Bailey Fischer, Bridges by Epoch at Nashua

For the first time, audience members will be able to VOTE for their favorite chef. At the end of the show, online voting will be available at the Nashua Senior Center website, on their Facebook page, or by calling 603- 889-6155. Voting will be open for one week following the airing of the event.
The event also has an amazing raffle consisting of more than 50 baskets with a combined value of more than $10,000. For $35, you will be entered into the raffle and have a chance to win each of the baskets. Once you win, organizers will put your ticket back into the remainder of the drawings. Raffle runs through Sept. 15, with the drawing shortly thereafter. Tickets may be purchased at HERE or by calling 603-889-6155 (ext. 642 or ext. 649).
This event is the largest fundraiser of the year for the Nashua Senior Center, generating more than 13% of the revenue needed to operate the 100% self-funded nonprofit.
The Nashua Senior Activity Center is a resource for the seniors in the greater Nashua area; its mission is to promote healthy aging, independence, and the well-being of older adults through health, wellness, educational, cultural and recreational programs and services. MEET YOUR LOCAL VENDORS!
Kodinos is family-owned Nashua based boat-to-table company. They source their fish from Alaska. Capt. Sammy catches the fish on their boat, The Eowyn; it’s flash frozen immediately after the catch, to preserve peak freshness. Sam’s brother A.B. brings it to market and manages the online sales.
Stop by on Sunday, say hello to A.B. and choose your fresh salmon to go with your local produce!

for book discussion Sept. 30
“The Woman’s Hour,” by Elaine Weiss, chronicles the Women’s Suffrage Movement and the battle for ratification of the 19th Amendment in Tennessee – the 36th state to ratify and the one that put the Amendment over the top. The suffrage movement, which celebrates its 100th anniversary this year, resulted in women nationwide getting the right to vote.
Join a virtual book club at 7 pm Wednesday, Sept. 30, hosted by Nashua Mayor Jim Donchess, focused on Weiss’ novel, to commemorate this historic milestone.
Three local panelists, along with Mayor Donchess, will kick off the event, with each offering a perspective on the book and then opening it up to questions from registered participants. Panelists include:
  • Dr. Nicole Loring – political science professor at Rivier University; and
  • Sarah Paling and Kate Soucy – women’s studies specialists from the Nashua School District (Nashua High School South).
A limited number of copies of the “The Woman’s Hour” are available at the Nashua Public Library for anyone interested in participating in the event. The book is also available for purchase on Amazon, in-store and online at Barnes & Noble.
To register for the virtual book club, email [email protected] or call 603-589-3260.
