Good Afternoon –FNAME–,
As the great state of NH see’s a reduction in cases of COVID-19, and an effective flattening of the curve thanks to all of our efforts in recent months – the Governor has announced a transition from Stay at Home 2.0 to Safer at Home guidelines. Safety restrictions have been updated to allow for indoor dining (at 50% capacity in Hillsborough County), summer camps, outdoor activities and more to resume. We’ve all made great sacrifices to get here, and it is our hope that with folks continuing to take proper precautions, like being mindful of hand washing, and wearing masks when social distancing is not possible – the we will be able to keep the curve flat and continue to enjoy a little time outside of the house under these new guidelines.
Remember, Safer at Home means just that – and though more opportunities for work and enjoyment are opening up – we all still need to do what we can to reduce transmission for the health and safety of ourselves, our families, and our neighbors. You can learn more on the new state guidelines on this piece from NECN, as well as on guidelines for various activities and industries that will be opening up on June 15th on state’s website here. The state has also launched an Asymptomatic Spread Assessment Program to help keep the curve flat, anyone can sign up to get tested at drive up sites located throughout the state here, and can learn more about how to get tested in Nashua here. Not near Nashua, or one of the state’s sites? For a full list of testing locations, you can click here. I just got my asymptomatic swab test done today. It was a quick and easy way (it did tickle my nose a bit) to be a part of keeping the curve flat, and I would encourage folks to consider getting tested if you’re feeling up to it!
In other positive news: here at Great American Downtown, w eâre committed to providing access to fresh, local, healthy foods – and to the safety of our customers, vendors, and staff. We are very pleased to announce that opening Day for the Nashua Farmers Market is June 21st! With good social distancing in mind, and to accommodate as many vendors as possible, this season we will be operating on three sides of City Hall with lots of space between vendors (map below), a requirement for all to wear masks, a one way flow of foot traffic and other health and safety measures. This location for the 2020 season is conveniently located next to the Elm Street Parking Garage, which provides a free place to park on all levels every day after 5pm, as well as all day on Saturdays and Sundays! Click here for our full list of 2020 vendors for opening day, and save the date for June 21st! Stay tuned for more information next week, and we canât wait to see you all again!
We hope you have a great weekend!

Our photo of the week was shared by Bill James, featuring a gaggle of kayakers enjoying the cool mist of the Nashua River fountains by Clocktower Place Apartments and the Main Street Bridge. Bill writes, “People have asked for years and it’s finally happening. Kayak rentals are coming to downtown Nashua!”

Greater Nashua Food Council
The Greater Nashua Food Council is committed to making healthy, local food more accessible. This is partnered with a passion for making a healthy lifestyle fun and desirable.
The Council serves as a forum to enhance communication and collaborative projects among diverse organizations and constituencies. Working together, we can all contribute more effectively to the evolution of a resilient local food system, one that that nurtures the health of people, the local economy, and the planet at large.
The Greater Nashua Food Council is an ever expanding group using a collective impact model of over 80 local residents and partner organizations who are stakeholders in creating a sustainable food system in Nashua. There is a particular focus on those that struggle with food insecurity and thinking through some of the deeper system issues that may be barriers to food access such as transportation, livable wages, stable housing, healthy homes, and childcare.
Taking this systems thinking approach will be key to developing and sustaining the relationships needed to improve food access. The Council is focused on four key areas; nutrition education, production, distribution, and policy, to create a sustainable food system that provides healthy food options for all residents of Nashua.
Current collaborative projects include; community gardens, farm to school, “Cooking Matters”-cooking classes, gleaning from local farms and redistributing to communities in need, and addressing local transportation policies.
