Photo of the Week

Our photo of the week features an intersection of the past and present, and was shared by Jeff Jameson to the Nashua, NH Past, Present, and Future Facebook page. Jeff has taken archived images, and laid them over modern day scenes, to give us a glimpse into the past of Downtown Nashua! You can check out the full set of images in the Facebook group page here!

Do you have some great pictures of our vibrant Downtown you’d like to show off? Post them to our Facebook page, or send them to us by email! We love to share images that capture the beauty and excitement of Downtown Nashua.

 FARMERS MARKET OPENS THIS SUNDAY!

Nashua Farmers Market
Opening Day June 21st
Now Every Sunday, 10 am–2 pm
Great American Downtown is very pleased to announce that Sunday is opening day for the Nashua Farmers Market!
With good social distancing in mind, and to accommodate as many vendors as possible, this season we will be operating on three sides of City Hall (229 Main Street) with lots of space between vendors (map shown above), a requirement for all to wear masks, a one-way flow of foot traffic and other health and safety measures.
This location for the 2020 season is conveniently located next to the Elm Street Parking Garage, which has free parking on all levels daily after 5 pm, as well as all day Saturdays and Sundays!
Vendor list and more information on safety practices can be found by clicking below. We can’t wait to see you all again!

NEW HAMPSHIRE JUNETEENTH CELEBRATIONS

On Juneteenth, we commemorate June 19, 1865, when Union general Gordon Granger read federal orders in Galveston, Texas, that all previously enslaved people in Texas were free – it signifies the emancipation of the last remaining enslaved African Americans in the Confederacy.
The New Hampshire Juneteenth Facebook page has aggregated a helpful list of events happening in-person and as virtual events, for anyone who would like to celebrate and learn about Juneteenth. There are events all around the state, Thursday through Saturday, including a children’s scavenger hunt, a soul food cooking demo, workshops and speakers on current events and historical perspectives, live music, religious celebrations and more.
Thank you to the Racial Justice Mission Group of New Hampshire Conference United Church of Christ on their work to educate and help gather people together to celebrate and learn.
There’s also a Black Heritage Trail of New Hampshire page with Juneteenth celebrations. Read more in this ParentingNH article.

WEBINAR on LGBTQ+ DOMESTIC VIOLENCE

Empowering LGBTQ+
Voices in Domestic Violence Advocacy
Wednesday, June 24
noon–1 pm
Bridges: Domestic and Sexual Violence Services invites you to their next Lunch Connections Zoom session:  Beyond the Rainbow: Empowering LGBTQ+ Voices in Domestic Violence Advocacy.
The LGBTQ+ community is nearly twice as likely to experience Intimate Partner Violence than their non-LGBTQ+ counterparts (NCAVP). Many of these survivors face barriers preventing them from reaching out for help and accessing support.
This workshop will give an overview of Intimate Partner Violence and how we can support LGBTQ+ friends, family, and community members experiencing relationship abuse. You’ll gain tools you can use to build trust and help mitigate the increased challenges LGBTQ+ victims/survivors face.
The Zoom webinar will reflect on cultural humility, the importance of inclusive language, and will share information about creating a safe, welcoming environment for all.
Speakers will include Amy Jo Muscott, Education Coordinator; Pam Smith, Milford Program Coordinator; and Fahmina Zaman, Cultural Outreach Advocate.
Topics will include:
  • History of PRIDE and the LGBTQ+ rights movement
  • Dynamics of power and control in intimate relationships
  • Challenges that face all survivors in accessing support
  • Additional barriers faced by LGBTQ+ victims and survivors
  • Ways to support LGBTQ+ individuals
  • About Bridges and Lunch Connections
Attend via Zoom by registering below.

WINENOT WELCOMES YOU BACK!

Winenot is ready to pour you a glass–
in person, or virtually!
Our friends at WineNot Boutique invite you enjoy a taste of the world with them – either at their beautiful shop at 221 Main Street, or via the ubiquitous Zoom experience!
For in-store events, owner Svetlana Yanushkevich and her staff have worked hard to achieve proper social distancing requirements that enable wine lovers to enjoy her “bubbly” personality in the same room again! (see image below) To that end, her free Saturday tasting times are offered to limited guests in half-hour increments:

1:00-1:30, 1:30-2:00, 2:00-2:30, 2:30-3:00, 3:00-3:30, 3:30-4:00, 4:00-4:30, 4:30-5:00
Please call or email to reserve your table: 603-204-5569 or [email protected]
On Friday, June 19, join a Zoom tasting event from 6-7 pm, where you’ll “meet” Argentinian winemaker Patricio Santos – his father Ricardo’s winery was the first winemaker from Argentina to export Malbec to the United States. Great wines, and a fun and educational event! Event details here
On Saturday, June 20, you’re invited to the store from 1–5 pm for WineNot’s complimentary tasting “Spain vs. France” with two special guests serving eight great wines, including:

~ La Joven Garnacha Almansa DO Spain
Both a red wine and white wine made from the same Garnacha tinta grape variety!
~ Anibal de Otero Mencia 2013 El Bierzo DO Spain
100% Mencia from 130-year-old vines. MUST taste!
~ Rose Petals 2018 Languedoc AOC France
Made with a blend of three red grapes (Grenache, Cinsault, Syrah) and one white grape (Muscat Blanc a Petits Grains)
~ Domaines Barons de Rothschild Legende Medoc 2014, Bordeaux
On the nose, intense and aromatic, with mingling notes of leather and spice with subtle woody aromas. The full-bodied red with a fine tannic structure, spicy flavors and a long, fresh, aromatic finish. View the full list of wine details here.
