Photo of the Week

Our photo of the week is a capture from this past Saturday’s “Light Parade” event, organized by the Nashua Area Kayak Exploration Destinations group on Facebook! Over 60 boaters were out on the Nashua River, with various crafts decorated with fun and festive lighting. They created quite the spectacle! If you missed it, and want to see what the event was all about, you can check out our live video of the event here on Facebook.
Do you have some great pictures of our vibrant Downtown you’d like to show off? Post them to our Facebook page, or send them to us by email! We love to share images that capture the beauty and excitement of Downtown Nashua.

This summer, the City of Nashua, in partnership with Great American Downtown are planning for two events, in August and September. Join us outside by the river, for hot music and cold ice cream (available for purchase from Hazy Ice Cream truck). First, enjoy a dance lesson with instructor Theo Martinez, who will teach us Latin dance styles. Then, our guest musicians will heat up the night with two 45-minute sets:

 NH Eat Local Month!
New Hampshire and New England provide a bounty of locally grown and sourced food. It’s always a good time to remember that we can enjoy delicious food that also supports our local economy and our hard-working neighbors and farmers.
August is NH Eat Local Month, and there are many ways for you to increase your community involvement. Check out the official website for ideas.
Here at Great American Downtown, we #eatlocal as much as possible! And we’ve got some ideas for you as well. Check out our Eat Local page here. Each week of August in The Downtowner, we’ll publish a a new blog about the local food purveyors participating in our Nashua Farmers Market. We’re happy to shine a spotlight on these hard-working local farmers, bakers, and food producers who are committed to providing the best local items available.
This week, we are presenting our first NH Eat Local blog post on Country Dreams Farm, 24 Karrot Bakery and Berkshire Gold Maple Syrup.

NONPROFIT OF THE WEEK

Marguerite’s Place
Marguerite’s Place, Inc. helps women with children achieve self-sufficiency by providing them with safe, stable, transitional housing along with emotional, educational and supportive services.
Marguerite’s Place was founded in 1994 by Sister Sharon Walsh and Sister Elaine Fahey. They named their organization after St. Marguerite D’Youville, the foundress of the Grey Nuns of the Sacred Heart, who was known for her compassionate care of women and children and her deep faith in God. The Sisters’ original mission remains strong and continues to guide the nonprofit: Marguerite’s Place supports homeless women with children in their quest for self-sufficiency by providing transitional housing, childcare, and a continuum of supportive services to help families thrive.
There are many ways to support this Nashua nonprofit and its good work; find your way to donate here.
Marguerite’s Place offices are located at 87 Palm Street (this is not where clients live). For more information, visit their website, call the office at 603-598-1582 or email [email protected]. Like and Follow them on Facebook.
