FIRE & FUSION GOES VIRTUAL IN 2020
Raffle tickets on sale NOW
Fire & Fusion, the popular annual event and fundraiser presented by Nashua Senior Activity Center, is rising to the challenges of 2020 (ugh, aren’t we all?!) by still holding the event, but in a virtual format.
Mike Morin will be back to emcee as usual, as talented local chefs from area senior living facilities show off their skills in a “Chopped”-style timed competition. We’ll share more details about this fun (and sometimes frenzied!) night closer to the Sept. 2 event date, but we wanted to alert you now to your opportunity to win some pretty incredible raffle prizes.
âââââââThe fundraiser is critical to the nonprofit senior center, and their gift basket raffle is a huge component. You can buy raffle tickets now, in advance of the virtual event that will be broadcast Sept. 2.
Click HERE to see a list of the baskets and their contents, or watch this video to see the baskets. Each $35 entry gives you more than 50 chances to win. Winning entries are even thrown back into other baskets for remainder of the raffle!
To purchase online, use the donation form HERE and write âraffleâ in the âIn Honor of Field.â You can also call the Nashua Senior Center at 603-889-6155 (ext. 642 or ext. 649) for raffle tickets and more information.
And we’ll give you more details on the virtual event as it draws closer!

NASHUA CELEBRATES WOMEN’S SUFFRAGE

Mayor Donchess honors 100 years of Women’s Suffrage Movement
2 pm Sunday, Aug. 16
virtual event
The 100th anniversary of the Womenâs Suffrage Movement is here. Following 70-plus years of protests, marching, lobbying and effort by women leaders, the right to vote was secured for women across America when the 19th Amendment was ratified by 36 of then-48 United States on Aug. 18, 1920 and added to the U.S. Constitution a week later on Aug. 26, 1920.
Nashua Mayor Jim Donchess is marking this historic occasion with a virtual suffrage event on Sunday, Aug. 16 at 2 pm, broadcast live on Mayor Jim Donchessâ Facebook page and on your television, on Nashua CTV Channel 16.
Featured guests include New Hampshireâs U.S. Senators Maggie Hassan and Jeanne Shaheen; State Senators Cindy Rosenwald and Melanie Levesque; Congresswoman Annie Kuster; Dr. Sindiso Mnisi Weeks; freelance writer and Telegraph columnist June Lemen; community activist, Sandy Belknap; journalist/author Quincy Whitney; readings and re-enactments from Nashua Theater Guild and Actorsingers; and music of the Suffrage movement performed by students Nashua Community Music School.
âWe cannot overstate the importance of those women on whose shoulders we stand today. I urge all women to ponder what we owe to those who braved the paths before us,â said Quincy Whitney. âA perfect way to do them honor is to cherish their history, know their stories and visit the Cathedral of the Pines. Every New Hampshire woman has a special legacy of national significance in their own backyard.”
Interspersed in the program between the featured speakers will be information on registering to vote, as well as a slideshow of news clippings and photographs from the suffrage era, courtesy of the Nashua Historical Society.
“I’m honored to be part of the City of Nashua’s centennial celebration of the 19th Amendment. It’s important we not only acknowledge this milestone in United States and women’s history, but also to understand that it took decades […] to finally win the right to vote in 1920,â said Sandy Belknap. âSharing such history at this time will hopefully encourage all of us to be more active in our own community with civic engagement and to never take this incredible right for granted.”
