Dear –FNAME–,
Nashua has shown her true colors in recent weeks, with the City of Nashua, businesses, non-profits, and neighbors working together to support one another. Everyone has been impacted in some way, and it is in communicating our needs and how we can be of support that we will get through this together. I hope you and yours are doing well, and that you have everything you need. If you are finding it a challenge to meet your basic needs, please feel free to reply to this email, and I hope that I might be able to point you in the right direction.
We have all been adapting and adjusting to our circumstances, and Great American Downtown is no different. We have shifted our focus to conducting community events, to providing support for our small businesses and non-profits that operate here in the downtown – and collaborating with Nashua Economic Development and our Greater Nashua Chamber of Commerce to assess and address the needs of our broader community. If you are a business or non-profit interested in receiving information about resources geared toward recovery and are not currently receiving a weekly update from me, don’t hesitate to click here and let us know, and we will keep you in the loop.

Normally at this time of year, we begin ramping up for spring programming. Our Nu Muse festival, which has been traditionally scheduled for the first weekend in May will be postponed to 2020. Other impacted programs, which are indefinitely postponed at this time, include the Nashua Street Pianos Program, and our Annual Downtown Parks & Trails clean up day. We are still working to plan for the Taste of Downtown, held in June, the Nashua Farmers Market, and other summer programs – but will continue to look to our local, state, and federal health agencies to adjust the timing and planning to ensure that attendees can enjoy a safe and fun experience – as we reunite with neighbors, family, and friends in the months ahead.

This week, we resume our weekly e-newsletter with some great ways to stay active and engaged, to support local when and how you can, and to help people find the resources they may need. Whatever the future brings, Great American Downtown will continue to be here for all of you, and we so look forward to a time in the not so distant future when we can be together again.

Sincerely,
Paul Shea
Executive Director

Though playground structures, skate parks, and sport courts are closed in Nashua – NH’s Stay at Home Advisory and Nashua Public Health recommendations do still allow for walks in your neighborhood, or nearby parks. It’s a great time to get out for a walk and some sunshine along Nashua’s Heritage Rail Trail, at Mines Falls Park, or the Nashua Riverwalk! This is a great way to beat cabin fever, while still practicing social distancing.
Maintain at least 6 feet of distance from fellow explorers, and avoid direct contact, like handshakes and high fives with friends you might see out, when possible. For more on what social distancing is all about, check out this great article from The Atlantic – and for more information and resources, visit the Nashua Public Health website here
Love taking a gander at inspiring pieces of public art? You can find a map of over 60 works of art, on our website here! Happy exploring!

Coffee Anyone?
Many shops have adjusted hours, and practices – and some are getting very creative so that they can continue to serve their customers! Riverwalk Cafe in Railroad Square will do a pop-up opening this Saturday morning from 8 am to 10 am. How will it work? They’re going to set up a table outside (or in the likely event of a little snow, swing their mighty doors open). They will be selling their delcioulsy fresh roasted coffee by the pound at the sweet price of $10.95 – Colombia, Tanzanian, El Salvadoran and a nice Brazil…Oh, and they’re going to bake up a fresh batch of scones, muffins, chocolate banana bread, and more! FREE CUP OF COFFEE TO THOSE WHO DROP BY, WOOHOO!

Healthcare Professionals & First Responders Show Love
While we’re doing all we can to social distance, and to keep ourselves and our community healthy and flatten the curve – essential healthcare workers and first responders are on the job, responding directly to the crisis.
This week at Southern New Hampshire Medical Center, Nashua Fire Rescue was joined by the Nashua Police Department and AMR of Nashua in a show of support for healthcare workers. These first responders lined up and offered a round of applause for front line staff beginning and ending their shifts at the hospital.

Non-Profit of the Week!

MakeIt Labs

There is a lot of good going on out there, and each week we’re going to put the spotlight on a local non-profit that is stepping up with their skills and resources to help in our community response.
Over the past few weeks, the most incredible Makerspace on the planet has been hard at work, ensuring that regional medical facilities have some of the PPE they need to work safely. Their lift is nothing short of herculean.

A coalition of area non-profits is working together to ensure that no-one need go hungry in these challenging times. The Greater Nashua Food Council has put together a great resource page. If you are experiencing trouble keeping food on the table, this is a great starting point.

Before the COVID-19 school closure, End 68 Hours of Hunger food bags provided 7 meals and 3 snacks for children each weekend. Currently, their bags provide up to 14 meals and 6 snacks for children to help fight hunger while the stay-at-home order is in place. Since the school shutdown started one month ago, they have provided 28,700 meals for children.
This would not be possible without community support. Every food donation dropped in their shed helps. Every penny donated goes to purchasing food for kids.

This week’s most needed items are:
Crackers (Ritz, Saltines, or Graham)
Instant Pancake Mix
Squeezable Jelly
Cans of Parmesan Cheese
Canned Pasta – Ravioli, Beefaroni, etc.

Add these items to your shopping list, and drop them at their donation shed at 17 Airport Rd (at the back of the building) is open 24/7 for drop offs. THANK YOU!!
