Photo of the Week

Our photo of the week is this vibrant sunflower spotted downtown by Seth J. Dewey Photography. After all the rain we’ve had lately, it’s nice to see at least a replacement version of something sunny in nature!

LET’S DANCE! FREE MUSIC SERIES IS BACK!

The City of Nashua and Great American Downtown present three outdoor dancing events!
Latin, Big Band and German Oompah music
Dust off those dancing shoes! Since 2016, families, friends and neighbors have gathered in the closed-off street in front of City Hall – and now, in the parking lot at beautiful Renaissance Park – to dance the warm summer night away! Attendees enjoy free lessons from local dance instructors, music fills the air, and all are invited to DANCE!
Due to popular demand, we’ve put together THREE great events this year! Each event will focus on a specific cultural style of dance. Instructors will be there to show you the basics for an hour; then our guest musicians will heat up the night with two 45-minute sets:
July 30: Latin night – Beantown Social Club
Aug. 20: Big Band night – Dan Gable and the Abletones
Oct. 16: Oompah in the Park – Wunder Kapelle
July 30th & August 20th events will be held from 7–10 pm, at Renaissance Park on Water Street, in Downtown Nashua. Grab your friends and mark your calendar!

BIRD SCOOTER DEMOS

Bird is the word! Learn how to ‘scoot’!
Jeremy from Bird Scooters will be on hand to offer tips and tries on their scooters, which are offered through a partnership with the City of Nashua.
He will have a scooter in front of the table, and there will be rider tutorials and tips for all that are interested.
You may have already seen folks zipping around town on these fun rentals. The City has partnered with shared electric scooter company, Bird Rides, to bring electric scooters back to Nashua. Similar to the VeoRide scooters that were here in 2019, Bird scooters will be available through a smartphone app which allows riders pay to use the scooter per minute. There will be 125 scooters available for rent from 5 am–midnight. The scooters have a maximum speed of 15 mph and riders are required to be 18 years of age or older to access them.

CITY GETS HAND SANITIZERS GIFT

Nashua officials gathered at Nashua High School South to accept the generous donation of hand sanitizing dispensing stations from the National League of Cities and the National Association of Wholesaler Distributors. From left: Shaun Smith, director of plant operations for the Nashua School District; Justin Kates, City of Nashua Emergency Management director; Nashua Mayor Jim Donchess, and Bobbie Bagley, director of Public Health and Community Services for the City of Nashua.
Hand sanitizer donation
benefits Nashua community
Hand sanitizer dispensing stations abound in the Nashua community thanks to a generous donation coordinated by the National Association of Wholesaler-Distributors and the National League of Cities. The donation helps support Nashua’s efforts to vaccinate residents with the COVID-19 vaccine and supports the city’s reopening as it continues to navigate the pandemic.
The National Association of Wholesaler-Distributors and the National League of Cities collaborated with EBP Supply Solutions in Milford, Connecticut and ABM Industries in New York, New York to make this donation happen. The team at the National Association of Wholesaler-Distributors credit EBP Supply Solutions President Matthew Sugarman and EBP CEO Meredith Reuben, as well as Coley Daigler, director of procurement for ABM Industries, for this effort.
Fifty-eight sanitizer dispensing stands and 12 1,200 ml bottles of sanitizer per dispenser (696 total bottles) were donated to Nashua. The stands and refill bottles are set up at all Nashua schools and the others were distributed throughout the community by the city’s Department of Public Health and Community Services.
Nashua Mayor Jim Donchess said he’s grateful for the sanitizing stations.
“Maintaining measures to keep our community safe, like hand sanitizing stations, are just as important today as they were a year ago, as Nashua continues to rebound from the pandemic,” said Donchess. “Thank you to the NAW, the NLC, EBP Supply Solutions and ABM Industries for thinking of our community with this generous donation.”
The donation to Nashua was part of a larger effort. Together, the NAW and the NLC donated thousands of plastic desktop barriers, face masks and shields, hand sanitizer, wipes, gloves, aprons, vests and thermometers to eight cities: Albany, East Point, Savannah and Union City, Georgia, as well as Framingham, Massachusetts, Hamden and New London, Connecticut and Nashua.
Eric Hoplin, CEO of the National Association of Wholesaler-Distributors and Clarence Anthony, CEO and Executive Director of the National League of Cities, said they were glad to be part of this endeavor.
“We are proud to partner with the National League of Cities and eight cities across the country to donate supplies they need to open community centers, schools and pop-up vaccination sites,” said Hoplin.
“NLC was proud to bring together these civic-minded companies through our work with the National Association of Wholesaler-Distributors, with leaders who are committed to keeping their residents safe while reopening and rebuilding their communities,” said Anthony.
