Our photo of the week was captured by Kerry Miller of Mayor Donchess’ office, who shot this from her City Hall window last week, as the storm clouds dramatically rolled in! Great image!

GET READY: DANCIN’ IN THE PARK IS COMING!

The City of Nashua and Great American Downtown present three outdoor dancing events!
Latin, Big Band and German Oompah music
Dust off those dancing shoes! Since 2016, families, friends and neighbors have gathered in the closed-off street in front of City Hall – and now, in the parking lot at beautiful Renaissance Park – to dance the warm summer night away! Attendees enjoy free lessons from local dance instructors, music fills the air, and all are invited to DANCE!
Due to popular demand, we’ve put together THREE great events this year! Each event will focus on a specific cultural style of dance. Instructors will be there to show you the basics for an hour; then our guest musicians will heat up the night with two 45-minute sets:
July 30: Latin night – Beantown Social Club
Aug. 20: Big Band night – Dan Gable and the Abletones
Oct. 16: Oompah in the Park – Wunder Kapelle
July 30th & August 20th events will be held from 7–10 pm, at Renaissance Park on Water Street, in Downtown Nashua. Grab your friends and mark your calendar!

THURSDAY: COMMUNITY ART PROJECT INSTALLED AT SJH

‘1,000 Peace Cranes’ project dedication event
at St. Joseph Hospital
6:30 pm Thursday, July 8
The Nashua International Sculpture Symposium will hold an event to celebrate the installation of their latest art project, in the atrium of St. Joseph Hospital, 172 Kinsley Street, this Thursday at 6:30 pm. One thousand origami paper cranes will be installed on a 10-foot branch display. The event will include food, music and more.
The 2021 Nashua International Sculpture Symposium may be over for now, with the striking and beautiful new pieces installed in a sculpture garden at 6 Church Street in Nashua, but the fun continues with the “1,000 Cranes for Nashua project,” the start of a series of activities and events for people to get involved with all over the Nashua area throughout the year.
More than 1,000 origami paper cranes were made. Artist and NISS board member Kate Pritchard of Nashua, who developed the project, has created an art piece which will display 1,000 of the cranes, to be revealed in the spacious and airy atrium at St. Joseph Hospital in Nashua. The cranes have been created since April and May by kids, adults and families.
According to Japanese legend, if someone folds 1,000 paper cranes, they will be granted a wish. According to Pritchard, the activity is based on a book titled ‘Sadako Sasaki,’ the story of a young girl injured by the atomic bombing at Hiroshima, Japan, during World War II; a children’s peace monument located there is dedicated to her and children annually send their 1,000 paper cranes there to be hung in her honor.
“The cranes also represent good luck, good health and loyalty to one another, so it seemed a perfect way to bring connection and positivity to people,” Pritchard said. The cranes are also seen as a sign of peace, often are given to people who are ill, as a wish for healing and recovery, too.
See the Facebook event page for more information.

The Crafty Clubhouse
kids’ craft projects
Nashua Farmers Market
10 am–2 pm Sundays

Kids of all ages are invited to sit with Pat Silva at her crafting table, to do a make-and-take activity while parents shop the farmers market. Pat will offer a new project each week, so there’s always something fun going on! It’s free to participate!
“I have always found arts and crafts to be calming and I enjoy spending time with young folks,” Pat says. “I retired as a secretary after 24 years at Elm Street Middle School, and am a lifetime member of the Nashua Area Artists’ Association, so bringing kids and art together was a natural. When I heard about the Kindness Rock’s project, I just knew I had to introduce that to the kids, also. Paul Shea’s generosity with helping fund the project made it a reality for the Farmer’s Market.”
We are so pleased to have Pat back again! Some of you might remember her table at our indoor winter market at the old Alec’s Shoe Store in 2019. Check out The Crafty Clubhouse on Facebook, and stop by and see what’s happening each Sunday!
