Great American Downtown’s Board of Directors announces the departure of Executive Director Paul Shea, after 7 years of service to the community in the role. The organization has long been known for coordinating programs like the Winter Holiday Stroll, the Taste of Downtown Nashua, and the Nashua Farmers Market, as well as a number of promotions to attract visitors and residents alike to the heart of our city.

As Executive Director, Shea developed a wide variety of new programs and initiatives that expanded the capacity in which Great American Downtown has served the community. During his time serving, Shea was recognized by his peers for his work with the Union Leader’s 40 Under 40, the Meri Goyette Arts Hero Award, as One Greater Nashua Business Leader of the Year, and as a nominee for the Greater Nashua Chamber of Commerce Eminence Awards on two occasions. He was recently elected to the City of Nashua’s Board of Public Works, is a registered nurse with a BSN from Rivier University, and recently assisted in the fight against COVID-19 in this capacity working weekends at a vaccination clinic over this past spring.

Board President, Dan ODonnell, said of Shea’s time leading the organization, “Our organization would not be what it is without the outstanding leadership and innovative skills Paul brought to his work. GAD has been instrumental in helping to revitalize downtown Nashua and serve as a daily advocate for the downtown merchants. Paul’s talent in community organizing and communication brought GAD to a whole new level, through the development of a community calendar, and the weekly ‘Downtowner’ newsletter which is read by thousands of people every week.”

“While people are most familiar with the Holiday Stroll on Main Street, he developed numerous other engaging programs such as Plaid Friday, the Chocolate Stroll, Downtown Scarecrows, the Nashua Street Pianos Program, our spring and fall outdoor music programs, and many others. Paul put in great effort to build our Nashua Farmers Market program from 8 to over 30 vendors, and lead the growth of the Gate City Community Gardens program, and many trails and parks service days in the Downtown. When the pandemic started Paul organized Zoom calls with our partners at the Chamber and City with subject matter experts, and helped the downtown merchants procure financial assistance to keep their businesses running. He also coordinated with the Untied Way and community partners to ensure access to vital PPE supplies for them. Paul has also been a big part of developing new programs in partnership with the City and other organizations, like the Dancing in the Park series, as well as the Nashua Pride Parade & Festival.” O’Donnell went on to say.

Board Secretary Debra Rapsis, said of Shea’s time with the organization, “He has been a relentless advocate for our community and bringing people together.  As a board member and officer of GAD, I have witnessed firsthand his commitment and dedication to making our downtown vibrant and welcoming.  His contributions are an integral part of our continued success. Great American Downtown can’t thank Paul Shea enough for his tireless efforts serving as our Executive Director.”
