Fortin Gage Flower & Gift Shop spread blooms and good vibes on Wednesday, Oct. 20, as they participated in the annual Petal It Forward initiative.
The Society of American Florist’s annual Petal It Forward day was created in 2015. This goodwill initiative has participants handing out a pair of flowers or bouquets, as a surprise treat to folks on the street. The intention is that the recipient keeps one, and gives one away, continuing the “pay it forward” cheer.
Fortin Gage employees – Amber Morgan, Courtney Jensen, Kate Werner, Robin Pike and Meghan Brady – and volunteers took to the streets of Downtown Nashua with a wagon full of fresh autumnal bouquets, and distributed them to passersby as well as our local business owners.
Morgan, retail manager for Fortin Gage, reports the team gave out an astounding 320 bouquets (refilled from a full company van) in their four-hour walk. That’s 160 people surprised on and around Main Street, who were then given the opportunity to pass along one of their two bouquets to keep the good feelings going even further to 160 more folks.
The Nashua business, celebrating 90 years, has shared their bounty of fresh flowers for Petal It Forward each year of the initiative, sans 2020 due to pandemic restrictions. They were happy to get out there again this week and spread smiles.
Recipients were also happy. “My wife and I were enjoying lunch at Martha’s Exchange today, when three people came by and gave us two bouquets of flowers for Petal It Forward day!” one person wrote. “My wife LOVES sunflowers! But the best part was that we gave the other bunch to a friend of ours, who is a very giving person, was having a bad day and who needed her own pick me up! Thank you!”
There is scientific evidence that flowers reduce stress and anxiety, and make people happy; we could all use more of that! Thanks, Fortin Gage, for spreading the love!
